Part of being a member of The New Hollywood is to focus out on charity and giving back to the community both through volunteer and also through donations; each meeting TNH members vote on a charity to donate to. Elizabeth House is member, Sarah McMaster’s choice. She elicits to us why she is passionate about this organization.
Elizabeth House, is special to me because homelessness is a cause that's always been important to me, and also I am a mother. I truly believe that if all children were shown unconditional love and respect, violence in the world would be eradicated completely. Elizabeth House addresses the needs of homeless mothers and their children. The first thing that struck me about Elizabeth House is how open the staff are. When I called, the staff member told me I can drop by anytime, they never close. No red tape, no bureaucracy here. It feels like a home. When I visited to donate baby items, I was offered a tour and invited to come back anytime. They are kind and nurturing and the organization is small enough that you can really feel that you can have an impact there and directly help those in need. They are open all the time and accept any and all type of baby and mom items 24/7. They are local, right in Pasadena, and are committed to nurturing mothers and their babies who are in need.
The mission of Elizabeth House is: “to provide shelter, hope and support to homeless pregnant women and their children, addressing the physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs in a nurturing atmosphere.” Their goal is to provide a comprehensive program of case management, counseling, educational classes, prenatal care, and resources throughout the pregnancy and beyond. Donations assist in providing care and education to the women and children who benefit from their services. The positive life-changing outcomes are a result of the quality in-resident program as well as the follow-up services they offer the 228 alumni who have gone through our program. As the only agency in the San Gabriel Valley that provides this unique and specific service, they aspire to:
