The New Hollywood is dedicated to supporting socially conscious changemakers. And it starts with our members. We are who we are because of our members. This year we have expanded to include a TNH Men’s branch, so we are now 3 branches strong and 66 members total! We are a group of passionate women and men dedicated to supporting each other and uplifting one another to reach their fullest potential. We are mothers, daughters, filmmakers, entrepreneurs, fitness experts, activists, husbands, actors, real estate agents, writers and all lovers of humanity. So, we want you to get to know each of us a little bit better. Each week we will feature 3 of our fabulous members answering the same questions.
But before we get started, we also want to get to know YOU, our online community of changemakers. So send us a video or leave a comment with your answers to our “Meet the Members Questionnaire” or share how you are creating social impact in your community. Part of building our mission to inspire each other is to reach out and share, so we want to hear from you. As always, thank you for reading and supporting. We know there are so many incredible causes to support and focus on, and during times where politics and beliefs can divide one thing we can all get behind is supporting another person’s dream. WE SUPPORT YOU!
This week we feature our founder, Brianna Brown, and our co-VPs Annie Tedesco, and Pina De Rosa. Check out their bios here. These women dedicate TONS of time, passion, and focus for The New Hollywood. They are the cornerstone of this organization and are passionate about inspiring other changemakers and socially conscious creators.
Don’t forget to leave a comment and share some of what you admire in these women, and even just 1 answer to these questions. It may surprise you and inspire you!
What is your favorite quote?
Annie: “Don’t be a Pussy” -- lots of people.
Brianna: “The grass isn’t always greener. The grass is green where you water it.”
Pina: “Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” (Steve Jobs)
What is currently on your bedside table?
Annie: I’m currently using a stool as my bedside table so everything is piled up. There’s a baby monitor sitting on top of the book, “Love in a time of Cholera,” which is sitting on top of my last 3 In Body fitness test print outs so I can remember to work harder on that baby weight every time I look at it. All this is sitting on top of a positivity journal that I do not use, but should. My headlamp, yup that’s right, is dangling off the side of all of this, hooked around the baby monitor.
Brianna: A crystal candle holder, a gratitude journal, my TNH guidebook that I co-wrote with Beth Navarro titled “Getting Shit Done…One Day at a Time,” and the book “The Presence Process” by Michael Brown.
Pina: I don't have a bedside table, but between my bed and the door is my wonderful pup Wellington (plus some water, and a couple of books)
What is your favorite make-up or beauty product?
Annie: I really love my Rodan and Fields Eye Creme and my Naturopathica Peptide Creme. I’m in a constant dilemma about using products with chemicals which tend to work more quickly and the more natural stuff, which makes me feel like I’m being good to my body. I settle for using something more natural everytime I use something with more chemicals in it to balance it all out. Not sure if that’s good science, but I feel good about it.
Brianna: My favorite product right now is Jai Lone’s Oxygen Cream Moisturizer. My favorite fitness regime is Pilates by Thalia Thomas, running, hiking and yoga with Whitney Allen.
Pina: My favorite make up/beauty product is a tie between Chanel's “Daring Red Ultra Wear Lip Color" (it stays on all day without drying up) and Anastasia Brow Powder Duo - with good eyebrows and red lips, I fee like I can get anything done. My favorite fitness regime is 1hr of heavy weight training with my trainer 3 times per week, and a half hour of cardio on my own 4-5 times per week.
What charity do you regularly support and why?
Annie: It’s The New Hollywood. I devote most of my extra time to being on the board as well as a Vice President. I am absolutely obsessed with message behind it of support. We are a 501c3 that makes an effort to lift up the storytellers and the change makers and I think that’s important.. and needed… big time.
Brianna: The charity I regularly support and feel passionately about is The New Hollywood. It takes up a majority of my free time being the founder and CEO. I love how we have evolved into supporting socially conscious storytellers and changemakers in the women’s, men’s and LGBT communities.
Pina: Aside from TheNewHollywood.org which is both a self-expression and a family, the charities I support and feel passionate about are the ones that train the cancer-detection dogs, such as medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk Because I lost a dearest BFF due to a late cancer diagnosis, I am passionate about the cancer detection dogs. The fact that dogs can detect cancer in humans EARLIER and with greater accuracy than ANY current testing, is a game-changer in the field of medicine! (*clinically proven even at the EARLIEST stages with 99% accuracy, even at Stages 0 & 1) I often wonder, if my friend had been screened by these pups instead of being sent home 3 times, would she still be alive?..
What challenges are you facing and working through and what resources are you using.
Annie: Well, today’s challenge is how to balance motherhood and working. It’s tough! Especially in an occupation that relies on me to look a certain way and always be available at the drop of a hat. I tend to spend a lot of time listening to the mothers that have gone before me in order to get through the toughest moments. I’ve also read a lot. A LOT.
Brianna: The challenges I’m facing and working through at the moment are deciphering whether certain activities, relationships and thought patterns are truly worth of my time. If they add value and are in alignment with what I most want to create in 2017 and beyond. The resources I am using are Tony Robbins Breakthrough University app as well as interrupting myself before I make commitments to make sure that I’m not just reacting to what life throws at me but instead being conscious in creating what I want to allow into my world.
Pina: The challenge I'm facing and working through at the moment is to to remain in inspired action and positively engaged during this current political climate. The resources I am using are to deliberately doing one random act of kindness each day this month and to staying focused on contribution to others - that has been my saving grace.
What is your main goal for this month?
Annie: I wish it were deeper.. but it’s to get to the gym or do some exercise 5 days a week. I know, kind of lame. But, for me, I don’t get a ton of time to myself anymore, so going to the gym has become an hour of getting out of my head, my house… and my baby’s face. It’s not only helping me get back into shape physically, but mentally as well. I’ve never been a great meditator, but for that hour at the gym on a treadmill, stair climber or in a spin class… I really can clear my list-making head and take a vacation from my thoughts. Super. Useful.
Brianna: My main focus and goal for this month is to launch all three branches of The New Hollywood, continue planning my wedding, be strategic within pilot season as well as maintain my health and wellness.
Pina: My main goal for this month is to connect with as many universities and support as many students as I can to end rape on campus and create a new legacy together + to set up all the logistics for an amazing experience for the annual Gratitude Summit.
How has TNH affected your life?
Annie: Wow. I’ll try and keep it simple. TNH has given me a peer group to learn from and grow with. We tend to rise together, which is great. We are all invested in each other’s goals and it can be really inspiring to see these women achieve! Man, do they achieve! When I look back at my own accomplishment over the last 10 years, I can see how having the constant inspiration of the others has helped me. I can see how being accountable for what I want and just having others to ask, has benefitted me and my trajectory greatly.
Brianna: TNH has affected my life by adding structure and accountability in a consistently inconsistent career and town, Hollywood. I’ve also grown by being surrounded by like-minded folks who inspire me to dream big and to be bold. My main purpose for being in the group is to help inspire and support like-minded individuals who want to use their artistry, passion and platform for a purpose bigger than themselves.
Pina: Being from Europe, my closest family members are 6000 miles away. TNH has become my chosen family and has affected the quality of my life with such richness and generosity – I feel very lucky to get to contribute with his team! My main purpose in being in the group is to hold myself to a higher level of purpose, growth and contribution.
What are you most passionate about and why do you love yourself?
Annie: Josie, my daughter. I’m most passionate about her. She is an amazing 1 year old and watching her become more and more like an actual person is amazing. Why do I love myself? That’s a toughie… I sort of love that I don’t always love myself. I know, that’s not very pc and it goes against all things zen and positive.. but it makes me better. It causes self-reflection and course-correction. We should always be changing and evolving and for me, that feeling of I hate myself, is a harsh, but useful red flag. Also, I think it’s kind of funny.
Brianna: I am SO passionate about leading by example and inspiring others to do so too. I believe that you gotta walk the walk you talk! I grew up in an environment where women tried to either take each other down or hold one another back. It is my mission to be a part of a paradigm shift where supporting one another is the norm. In an industry like Hollywood, that at times reminds me of a heightened version of high school, it is so important to uplift each other and create projects of value. I believe that that passion begins from the inside out, and what I love about myself is that I am constantly trying to learn from my mistakes and to grow. Because I always push myself I fall down, a lot, but I always get back up and eventually ask myself "Ok what went topsy turvy there? What can I do differently? What can I learn from this obstacle? How is it actually a blessing in disguise?" and then I try to help others see those pitfalls so they don't have to fall so deeply. That is what TNH is about, and I am committed to being the best version of myself as much as I can every single day.
Pina: What I am most passionate about is to live to learn and empower - I love connecting people. What I love about myself is that I inherited a smart brain that I get to use for good in the world…and I also love that I had the desire to live in the USA when I was a 10 years old little girl in Southern Italy, and I have been lucky to be living here since I was 18, feeling right at home.
